How close you would watch the package information while you're shopping? Except for the price and the calories, made in where information, would you also pay attention to the size?!
The economy is still in the downturn (and the coming future is still uncertain, at least for me!!) and the unemployment rate is still high, consumer surely will be more conservative in their shopping plan. Buy less and buy necessity ONLY. You think you're a smart shopper who with good shopping strategy?! Well, the retailer is smarter than you are. They notice consumer is more sensitive to the price change, but not so sensitive to the size of the good. So what they did? They shrank the size of each package and pray the consumer won't notice (well, at least not within short period time) But this can not be hidden forever, especially to those "strict budgeting" house wives who take care the whole family's meals everyday can easily sniff the difference (3 package of pasta can cook for a family of 4 for 3 times, with the new size of pasta, can only for 2 times!!)
Though some manufacturer emphasize that the smaller size package means a better and wiser idea for the healthy diet (but only limited to while we are talking about the snacks, it's hard to apply this explanation to the orange juice and diaper) Another manufacturer like Doritos said the jumbo package is just for a “limited time” offer. (in other words, the size we are having now is the NORMAL one)
No matter what the explanation is, next time when you're doing your daily shopping don't forget to pay more attention to the size, it may surprise you!!
